How to make "I can't wear that!" lipcolors work for brown beauties ...

Ever spot a lipstick that you just fell in love with instantly, but quickly put it back down because you were "too dark for it"?
There is NO such thing ladies!
With the proper understanding of the undertone of your complexion and proper usage of a lipliner
you'll be wearing that baby pink lipstick that you always wanted
without looking like you belong in someone's circus....

Not yet ready to experiment with Lip Liners? Stick to these complexion appropriate shades...
Medium-Brown Skin Tone
  • What Looks Best: Brown reds, berry pinks, rose, medium plums with yellow undertones.
  • What to Avoid: Pinks that are too cool or light, pastel shades, orange.
Dark Skin Tone
  • What Looks Best: You can get away with darker, deep shades, reds with blue undertones, reddish browns like mahogany, deep plums, wine reds, raisin, coffee brown and deep rose.
  • What to Avoid: Orange, pinks or pastel shades.                   Source
If you want to be a little more daring you can always make a vibrant or pastel color more wearable by blending and lining your lips with a complementary shade lip liner...
When choosing a lip liner, you want to make sure that you aren't choosing a shade that is TOO light or TOO dark.
Your Lipliner shade should be a color that will be blendable when paired with your lipstick.

#Tips -
Make sure you start with clean lips, free of any lip balms/glosses.
Adding a dab of translucent powder will help your liner & lipstick last longer.
Sharpen you pencil before application to rid of any cross contamination.
Line from the outer corners of your lips working towards the center in strokes
Line your lips, apply lipstick to center of lips, blot with a tissue, and reapply liner

I'll be giving you an example with a pastel shade from MAC Cosmetics that at first glance you might be afraid to try
It is MAC's Viva Glam Nicki 2
The Lipliner that I will be using is also from
MAC -  Plum

The first photo is without liner, the second is after the liner was applied.
